1. Overall Increase in Strength.

One of the most obvious reasons why you should bench press is because it increases overall strength in the chest, arms, and shoulders. A major plus to this exercise is that while you are primarily hitting chest (if you are doing it correctly), you are simultaneously exercising your arms and shoulders. This exercise strengthens most of your major lifters in the upper quadrant of your body. After doing this exercise consistently for a couple weeks you will be much stronger as long as you don’t do anything stupid to injure yourself.

Personal Thoughts on Bench Press Increasing overall strength.

Personally, I have had a tremendous amount of success with this exercise, and it has increased my upper body strength and endurance to a level I didn’t believe to be possible. Along with this, I have seen a substantial increase in muscle growth after performing this exercise consistently over the past a couple months. As long as you stay disciplined at performing this exercise you can see progress too!

2. Body Coordination between The Left and Right Sagittal Planes.

Do you have one side of your body that you feel is stronger than the other side? Well, I know that I do, and this exercise can definitely help with that. Because you are performing this exercise with both sagittal planes it helps encourage your body to work as one improving body coordination between the sagittal planes, equalizing muscle growth and endurance in both sides of the body.

In the past and now I have always had trouble with one side of my body being stronger than the other especially in my arms and shoulders. With that being said I can confidently say that this exercise has been exponentially helpful with equalizing strength endurance and size between my left and right sides of my body particularly in my chest.

3. Bench Press Can be Effective for Growth Even When Done with Light Weight.

When I first began in the gym there was a lot, I couldn’t do such as pull-ups, dips, chin-ups, etc. so I went on to do dumbbell workouts and bench press so that I can do these body workouts. The nice thing about working with weights in particular the bench press is that after doing it for a while even with light weight, you will be able to build up your strength enough to do these other exercises. So, keep doing bench press!!!

4. Bench Press Is Easily Manipulatable to Exercise Multiple Muscle Groups.

One of the greatest things about bench is that you can easily manipulate the angle at which you are bench pressing to hit different areas of the chest and other muscles like shoulders and triceps. Having this option to easily adjust the angle you are bench pressing at makes it convenient for you to do a surplus of exercises all in one place.

Over the duration of my gym experience I have really enjoyed having the convenience of being able to work out both of my major pectoral muscles and hit shoulders and triceps on the same bench by simply adjusting the angle I am lifting at.

So, while this exercise does make your chest look bigger and improves your upper body strength, it also helps with improving cardiac output, weight loss, and mental health.
